Getting started
How do I start?
Sign in with Google or Apple. You land on Home: type what you want written, or drop in a PDF.
Do I need an iPad?
No. Scriven works in any browser, on a computer, a tablet or a phone. An iPad and Apple Pencil are only needed to teach it your own handwriting.
Is there an app to download?
Not yet: Scriven runs in your browser at app.scriven.io.
Writing
How do I change a line?
Click it and type, or ask the assistant. Only that line is written again; everything else stays as it was.
Can it write maths and diagrams?
Yes: equations, fractions, matrices, graphs, circuits, mechanisms and labelled sketches, all by hand.
Can I mix handwriting and type?
Yes. Any block can be typed text instead of handwriting, and pictures can go anywhere on the page.
Why aren’t my lines perfectly straight?
Hands drift. Pick Exact in the document’s settings (the gear) to line everything up.
Your handwriting
How does Scriven learn my hand?
From what you write with Apple Pencil in the iPad app. It learns your letters and spacing from your own pages, and shows you how far along it is.
Can I have more than one hand?
Yes: a neat one and a quick one, or one for each person in a story.
Files and export
What files can I write on?
PDFs and photos of pages. Scriven reads them, finds the blanks, boxes and tables, and writes where things go.
How do I get pages onto my iPad?
Export a PDF, open it in any notes or PDF app, and write on it with Apple Pencil.
Can a page look scanned?
Yes. Choose the realistic finish when you export: scan app, colour, greyscale or flatbed, in pen or pencil.
Plans and usage
What’s different between the plans?
Free has every hand and paper and some of the assistant. Pro, Max and Ultra add your own handwriting, your own AI, more storage, and more of the assistant the higher you go.
What happens if I run out?
Writing and editing on the page keep working. The assistant waits for your next month, or carries on with credits.
What are credits?
More of the assistant, past your plan. You start with 300, and each friend you invite gets you 200 more.
Does my own AI count?
Yes. What a connected AI does in Scriven counts toward your plan, just like the assistant.
Is there a plan for a school or a team?

Your AI
Which AIs can connect?
Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and any other app that speaks MCP.
Can I stop a connected AI?
Any time, in Settings → Connect AI: make it read only, or disconnect it.
Privacy and your account
Who can see my documents?
You, and the people you share them with. We don’t sell your data or use it for ads.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Account → Delete account. We email you a link, and your account is deleted as soon as you confirm.
